OZZ-Less-FEST Rocks On
July 10, 2003Ching Lee of Appeal-Democrat reports that OZZY OSBOURNE's decision to avoid playing Wednesday (July 8) at Ozzfest's Marysville, California stop didn't dampen the spirits of the estimated 13,000 fans who began flooding the gates of the Sleep Train Amphitheatre before 9 a.m.
Ozzy Osbourne, known to many as the Prince of Darkness and godfather of the heavy metal genre, came down with severe laryngitis and was ordered by his doctor to rest his voice for a few days, according to an official statement released by his management company and Clear Channel Entertainment promoters.
"It's still good to come here, but it's not the same," said Mychal Davidson, 19, from San Leandro. "His health is more important, but I still wanted to see him."
Dressed in all black with black lips and plenty of black eye makeup to match, Davidson said she and her two male companions arrived at the amphitheater at 5 p.m. Tuesday because they "didn't want to miss anything."
"We've been trying to collect autographs and meet the bands," said Chris Cherolis, 19, who came with Davidson, wearing black knee-high platform boots and red, lacy sleeves underneath his black T-shirt.
Despite the nearly 100-degree temperature, most attendees wore black outfits in the form of T-shirts with logos of Ozzfest and other metal and rock bands such as LED ZEPPELIN, AC/DC, KORN and METALLICA. Read more.
